PEMBA FAMILIES LEFT HOMELESS AFTER COURT-ORDERED DEMOLITIONS.

Ten families in Mwiindilila Village of Chief Hamaundu Chiefdom in Pemba District have been left homeless after their houses were demolished under a court order, carried out under heavy police presence.

It is alleged that the families built their homes on land belonging to Lena Hachaambwa, a private individual who earlier this year obtained a court order for the demolition of the structures.

A check by our staffer, John Shikabe, found the affected families salvaging belongings from the wreckage.

And speaking in an interview, the families claimed that they have lived on the land for over 50 years, insisting that the land is on title.

Meanwhile, Pemba Member of Parliament Lameck Hamwaata has described the situation as unfortunate and has called on relevant authorities to urgently identify alternative measures to assist the displaced families.
