 SLEEP OVER GONE WRONG: Married Chipata accountant murders girlfriend


A 25 year old female has been allegedly murdered by her married accountant boyfriend who invited her home after chasing his wife.

Eastern Province police commanding officer Robertson Mweemba revealed to Kalemba that the deceased has been identified as Rodah Munkombwe of Kapata Compound who was killed by her boyfriend, Edward Mwanamuchele, 38, an accountant at Horizon Company.


The grisly incident happened between Thursday night and the early hours of yesterday at Mwanamuchele’s home in Kanjala, Chipata.


According to police, Mwanamuchele had earlier this month sent his wife packing after accusing her of misusing rent money. 


Left alone, he invited his Gen Z girlfriend to his house on Thursday evening.


But instead of romance, the night ended in horror and at about 23:30 hours, Mwanamuchele’s landlord, Moonga Ngobeka, heard strange noises from the house. 


When he demanded entry, the accountant claimed he could not find his keys and that’s how the landlord eho got suspicious used his spare key to open the door, only to be met with a blood soaked nightmare.


Rodah lay unconscious in a pool of blood near the doorway, with deep head wounds, cuts on her legs and bruises across her body. 


A metal bar is believed to have been the weapon used.


She was rushed to Chipata Central Hospital, but it was too late to do anything as she was pronounced dead.


While the girlfriend fought for her life at the hospital, Mwanamuchele remained home, found mopping blood from the floor and trying to cover up the crime scene. 


Police, alerted by the landlord, arrived swiftly and arrested him just as he was preparing to flee.


Inside the house, officers discovered blood stains splattered across the sitting room, bathroom and bedroom, with items scattered everywhere, suggesting a violent struggle.

Rodah’s body has since been deposited in the Chipata Central Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.


Police said Mwanamuchele is in custody and will appear in court soon, charged with murder.


“The body of the deceased was deposited in Chipata Central Hospital moutary, awaiting Postmortem examination results.More details to follow,” said Mweemba.
